Nutrilite Largest Certified Organic Farm

NUTRILITE is the Only brand to Grow, Harvest & Process plants at their own Organically Certified Farms.

BEST OF NATURE - Phytonutrients * The Nutrilite™ brand is a world leader in plant-based phytonutrient research, evaluating hundreds of plant concentrates each year.

Certified Organic Farming

Nutrilite™ is the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest and process plants on its own organic farms. * The Nutrilite™ brand controls the development of its supplements from seed to finished product. The Nutrilite™ brand practices sustainable farming, the future of organic farming. The Nutrilite™ brand owns four farms in three countries with over 6000 acres. The Nutrilite™ brand has established a Nutri-Certification program. This program ensures that any plant concentrate purchased has been grown according to strict organic farming specifications.

When it comes to supplements, Nutrilite® is different – and that’s a good thing. Today, we’re the only brand to grow, harvest, and process plants on our own certified organic farms (Euromonitor International Limited). By doing so, we capture phytonutrients, or nutrients from plants, at their peak.
So where do these phytonutrients come from? Where exactly are these certified organic farms? In the first installment of “Farm in Focus” we’ll share more information about one of our Nutrilite farm,Fazenda Nutriorganica.

Our farm in Ubajara, Brazil

Purchased by Nutrilite in 1998, Fazenda Nutriorganica is located in the city of Ubajara, Brazil, just 3° south of the equator. At 1,660 hectares (4,100 acres) it is the largest Nutrilite farm, and it is certified 100% organic .

Why go to the trouble and expense of organic farming?

Plants produce phytonutrients as a defense mechanism against pests and disease. When crops are sprayed with chemicals that defend the plants, they don’t have to work as hard to produce phytonutrients and the result is less-nutritious produce.
Owning and maintaining control over our Nutrilite farms ensures that our supplements contain high-quality ingredients.

What we grow at Fazenda Nutriorganica

  • Acerola Cherries
  • Coconut
  • Passion Fruit
  • Guava
  • Cashews

The source of Nutrilite’s natural ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)

The acerola cherry is one of the highest yielding plants for Vitamin C in the world. Each cherry, when ripe, has 3 ½% of its weight made up by Vitamin C. These cherries provide 100% of Nutrilite’s need for the natural ascorbic acid used in Nutrilite products.
Fazenda Nutriorganica’s main crop is acerola cherries. The climate at this farm is ideal for growing them year-round. Each acerola cherry tree can produce 80 kilos of cherries a year. Farm-wide that translates to over 300 million kilos of fruit produced each year!

Sustainability

The farm in Brazil is a mixed farm, as they also have 300 head of cattle. The manure from the cattle is used to make compost that is specially formulated for the types of crops that are grown at the farm. Most plant pest and disease problems are solved preventively by providing balanced organic nutrients to ensure strong, healthy growth.
Additionally, the NUTRICERT certification program ensures that all farms supplying botanical materials to Nutrilite adhere to our farming philosophy.

How does Vitamin D help our body

If you’re like many people, you may find yourself getting the blues from time to time – and even more often during winter months. When this happens, the culprit may be a deficiency in vitamin D.

Why?

The body generates vitamin D on its own, when skin is exposed to sunlight. But with shorter days and less time spent outside in colder seasons, you may not produce enough of this essential vitamin, which helps regulate your moods, immune system and neuromuscular system, while also aiding in calcium absorption. It also plays major role in the life cycle of human cells.
Vitamin D is so important that your body makes it by itself -- but only after skin exposure to sufficient sunlight. This is a problem for people in northern climates. In the U.S., only people who live south of a line drawn from Los Angeles to Columbia, S.C., get enough sunlight for vitamin D production throughout the year.
Dark skin absorbs less sunlight, so people with dark skin do not get as much vitamin D from sun exposure as do light-skinned people. This is a particular problem for African-Americans in the northern U.S.

What Vitamin D Does for You

  • Helps the body absorb calcium for strong bones and teeth
  • Required for healthy cells and a healthy heart
  • Supports teeth, breast, colon, and immune system health

Results of Vitamin D Deficiency

Common symptoms of low vitamin D can be subtle: ongoing fatigue, periodic depression (sometimes accompanied by “brain fog”), and muscle weakness. But left unchecked, a real D deficiency can lead to more severe health problems, like osteoporosis. You may be at greater risk if you’re age 65 or older, or if you eat a vegan diet, suffer from kidney problems, or have dark skin.

What You Can Do

As with many health issues, a balanced diet can help minimize your risks. Foods like fish (especially salmon), eggs, cheese, and fortified milk offer natural forms of vitamin D. You can also consider adding a vitamin D supplement into your nutritional routine. With more vitamin D in your system, you may find relief from those winter blues, and gain more energy in the process.

How Much is Enough?

Many health experts are now recommending an increase to the Recommended Dietary Allowance for vitamin D, suggesting that you get a minimum of 2,000 International Units (IU) each day.
Talk to your doctor if you’re unsure just how much vitamin D is best for you.
